UNDERSTANDING PHENYLKETONURIA (PKU)

Phenylketonuria phenylketonuria is a rare genetic disorder. It influences the individual's power to metabolize an amino acid called phenylalanine. Typically, the liver creates an enzyme called phenylalanine hydroxylase, which transforms phenylalanine into tyrosine. In individuals with PKU, this enzyme fails to function properly. As a result, phenyl
